JC Inaugural Track Club Champs

The Junior Cyclist Track Club Championships was held on Sunday 13 March 2016.

It was great to see such a massive turn out with riders covering every track category from JM15 to JG9. We even had enough riders to field U9, U11 and U15 races for riders competing in our freewheel (BMX/MTB/Road) categories.

Before we go into the individual results, I thought I might highlight a club achievement that the committee is very proud of. With International Women’s day having just passed last week, it seems fitting to highlight our gender ratio was 53% female at the Track Club Champs.

Our freewheel gender ratio is nearly 30% female. Many of our freewheel riders will convert to track in the October season, so we have more work to do if we are to preserve gender parity. On a side note, it was great to hear James is looking for a helmet for his 15 month old daughter, Amelia. It might be a couple of years before she’s at a club champs, but she’ll have a culture of riding well before her feet come anywhere near a pedal.

The trophies and medals were a big hit with the kids. Most recorded PBs or laid down their first ITT time. Grace Chandler and Liam Goltman took out the track wheelraces, while Liam Mahon and Charlotte Mahon took out the wheelraces for the freewheel kids. The most improved riders were Victoria Brash (track) and Amogh Vinilshekar (freewheel).

Additional prizes in the form of Cycleworld Gift Vouchers are available for our Overall Club Champions. Points were allocated to each category (5, 3, 2, 1, for first to fourth) in both the Individual Time Trial and the Scratch races to determine the overall club champions. Prizes can be collected at training on Thursday or racing on Sunday.

Overall Club Champions include track riders; Tom Stillwell, Sophie Pappas, Remi Whalan, Victoria Brash, Kai Goltman, Lauren Chandler, Axel Jurd and Grace Chandler. The freewheel Overall Club Champions include Zachary Bonham, Lucas Mahon and Liam Mahon. -The full list of riders can be found in the Hall of Fame.

Congratulations to all riders, parents and volunteers on a great track season.
