Junior Cyclist is a little more than 8 weeks old. -Although we have been in the planning and building stages for a few months longer than that. Despite such a short time, we built a club that was ready to send kids to their first NSW Junior Metropolitan Track Championships.
We had six riders who were appearing in their first ever metros, some of whom only riding a track bike for the first time in the weeks before the big event. -Well done kids, you’ve done our club proud!
For some of our newer members the goal was to race a new kind of bike, for others it was a PB in the time trial, or to finish with the group in the scratch and derby races.
For our more experienced riders the goal was to take a medal home at the end of the day, and boy did we clean up.
From the eight categories that we contested, nine riders took home medals including:
Gold – Grace Chandler (JG9), Sarah Allwork (JG11), Kai Goltman (JB11);
Silver – Julia Pappas (JG9), Victoria Brash (JG13);
Bronze – Oliver Timbs (JB9), Liam Goltman (JB11), Alexandra Pappas (JG13), Sophie Pappas (JW15)
If we add up all the points from all the Junior Cyclist members from a range of clubs, we end up with more points than any other affiliated club, academy or registered team.
Well done kids. I can’t wait to see you out there at the next big carnival.
